Owning a boat can bring a lot of enjoyment, especially for a family or a group of friends. But not everybody has the time or money that is required fully engage in this fantastic recreation. Ottawa residents are blessed with an abundance of great waterways to enjoy.
Port of Call Marina is on the Ottawa River just a short drive west from Kanata. From this location, there is a 40 KM stretch of river where you will find warm clean water for swimming and you will find beaches, bays, coves, islands, parks and more. The river is very wide and the current is gentle so this section feels more like a big lake than a river. The Ottawa River is also the border between Canada's two largest provinces so you can enjoy boating in Ontario and Quebec.
Owning a boat requires a big commitment in both time and money. If you buy a boat that you wish to bring to different places you will need a vehicle that can tow it. If you keep your boat at a marina, you will benefit from the convenience of always being ready to go, but you will need to pay marina fees. You will also be met with winterization and storage fees every year not to mention general maintenance expenses. For thousands of Canadians, it is worth every penny, for most though it is just not practical.
Renting a boat just may be the answer. For the equivilant cost of boat winterization and storage alone, you could spend a couple weekends on a rental boat. You could also enjoy many of the excellent boating areas nearby Ottawa and Gatineau by renting boats from other marinas in the area.
We started renting boats in 2015 so this is only our second year offering the service but it has become an enjoyable business. We get to meet people that are new to boating and we get to see their smiles when they return from a day on the water. We also meet people that have sold their boats but they still need to itch that scratch that was left behind. We see families come closer to together and friends that strengthen their bonds.
